Man reacts after Redeemer's University VC calls his parents over hungry sister

A Nigerian man has taken to social media to express his frustration over the country's economic hardship after the Vice Chancellor of Redeemer's University reportedly urged parents to feed their children better.

The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @Adheydayor, shared that the VC made the statement during a virtual meeting with parents and guardians, noting that many students are going hungry on campus.

He wrote,

"Bruh, Nigeria is so bad that you should cry."

"My sister is in Redeemer's University. The VC hosted a call with parents/guardians and told them that their kids are hungry, they don't feed well. Do you understand how bad it must be for a VC to bring this up as an issue?"

He further emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the story is real and that parents also voiced their concerns during the call. "I am not joking. I was so sad after the call. The parents on the call kept complaining about how the economy is bad and campus food is too expensive," he said.

He added,

"Were they not feeding well on the expensive campus food before? The parents are helpless too."

The post quickly went viral, with many Nigerians flooding the comment section to share their own experiences and concerns about the rising cost of living and its impact on students.

See some reactions below:

@Onsogbu: "So gov't willl feed them in a private university abi?"

@Ybnl_comedian: "Person go dey go redeemers university go still dey pay for food lol so what's the benefit of the title and offering they all get?"

@ONyerho: "RUN is not serious. How will they feed well when they don't allow them to cook. Only God knows how much food is now, as at 8/9 years ago, the prices of food there was ridiculous."

@okekecc: "A neighbor has stopped buying water of any kind and installed a filter to a tap in the house, that's the source of drinking water at the moment. She has a daughter studying in the UK, one at Nile university in Abuja and one who just left secondary school."

@dmayornoni: "People don't understand that parents are coming out of retirement to be able to survive. They are literally looking for consulting jobs to take care of themselves and their kids, the pension is not helping anymore."

@KenKings317800: "Yorubas are the only people defending this demonic government. Let it be documented in our history. Yoruba never stood for any good governance since the history of our nation."

@ComedyClinix: "The lowest tuition fee is 587k for someone doing CRS. A parent that can send their children there should be able to feed their children well."

@Iwillbecandid: "Private university o, not government. Let all of us continue playing dump, by the time Tinubu is done with us, maybe by den we would have, decided what we want to use the particles remaining to do."
